FREUDE: MARCH TO JOY!

FREUDE: MARCH TO JOY! is a new concert march commissioned by the National University of Singapore Wind Symphony and supported by the Ho Hwee Long Music Commission Fund.

The title, Freude, is derived from the German word for “joy,” paying homage to Ludwig van Beethoven’s iconic Ode to Joy from his Symphony No. 9. Beethoven’s timeless melody, a powerful anthem of peace and brotherhood, served as the central inspiration for this piece. Reflecting Beethoven’s spirit, the march seeks to convey a message of peace, unity, joy, and hope amidst an era of global instability and conflict. Through vibrant energy and an uplifting character, the march resonates with a universal aspiration for harmony.
